Gospel icon Rebecca Malope has reached an out-of-court agreement with Procter & Gamble SA (P&G). She had been appointed the ambassador for Ariel washing powder in 2016; however, after the contract was not renewed, her images were still used in the packaging.

The award-winning Gospel star sought legal action against the detergent company for using her picture way beyond the agreed period. She has since demanded compensation of R1 million.

Rebecca sues Arial washing powder company

According to City Press, Rebecca Malope and P&G's contract commenced on 1 July 2026 and was supposed to end on 30 June 2017. The contract for R350,000 was renewed on many occasions until September 2022.

Despite not renewing the agreement, P&G allegedly continued to produce packaging with the Umoya Wam hitmaker's face on it. This continued until 2025.

Malope officially filed a lawsuit in April 2025 at the Pretoria High Court, as reported by the news publication.

Rebecca and Arial settle out of court

Now, City Press has reported that they settled the matter out of court, leaving the Gospel star R1 million richer.

At the time, Malope said the situation was very stressful for her due to their favourable working relationship. When approaching the company, Malope said she was not confrontational; however, she had to amplify the matter due to their unwillingness to cooperate.

The publication quoted her saying:

"All we asked was to address the fact that I haven't been paid, despite my image being used for the past couple of years. But, instead of working with us to resolve it, they were just not cooperative. That's what's most disappointing and hurtful. I've been working in this industry for over 36 years. People know that I carry myself with integrity. I take my work seriously. I'm a professional and I absolutely love what I do."
