It never rains but it pours for embattled entrepreneur and reality TV star Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize. This comes after the latest reports that MaMkhize’s efforts to acquire the Eswatini Premier Soccer League club Mbabane Highlanders AM Football Club were unsuccessful.

Reports indicated that MaMkhize had successfully purchased another club after Royal AM's expulsion from the Premier Soccer League, following her failure to resolve her issues with the South African Revenue Service (SARS). According to the reports, MaMkhize had renamed Mbabane Highlanders in honour of her son. However, a new report indicates that the club will revert to its original name after MaMkhize missed a deadline.

MaMkhize's Mbabane Highlanders deal crumbles after missed deadline

According to a report by Soccer Laduma, MaMkhize missed the deadline to register herself as the new owner of the Eswatini Premier Soccer League club. Speaking to the publication, Eswatini Premier Soccer League CEO Pat Vilakati shared that Shauwn Mkhize had until Monday, 21 July 2025, to register herself as the new owner of Mbabane Highlanders, but she missed the deadline.

"Yes, at the moment, the team hasn't changed its ownership and name,” Vilakati was quoted by the publication. The expected new owner, Miss Shauwn Mkhize, and the old director, Bheki Simelane, were supposed to sign handover papers to register Mkhize as the new owner, but that didn't happen, and the closing date was Monday, 21 July,” Vilakati explained.

Pat Vilakati also suggested that Shauwn Mkhize had not paid a compensation fee to acquire the club from Bheki Simelane, who signed an 18-month contract with Mbabane Highlanders FC.

Vilakati explained that Simelane cannot hand over the club to MaMkhize if the compensation fee has not been paid. It is unclear whether MaMkhize can appeal during the upcoming 2025/26 season to change the club's name or if she has to wait until the season concludes. MaMkhize had neither denied nor confirmed the report at the time of publishing.

According to a report by Eswatini Positive News, the 2025/26 Eswatini Premier Soccer League season is set to begin in August 2025. The main registration period for eligible players started on 23 July 2025 and is expected to end on 26 September 2025. Clubs can still register players until 17 October 2025.

MaMkhize explained what led to Royal AM's collapse.

Briefly News reported that Shauwn Mkhize explained how a family trust linked to her dragged the club into financial turmoil.

In an interview with Andile Ncube, MaMkhize clarified what led to the SARS placing Royal AM under curatorship over an outstanding R40-million tax debt.
