Kaya 959 radio personality Sizwe Dhlomo has reacted to the latest ruling in the Vodacom vs Nkosana Makate saga. His response to the drama has sparked a heated discourse on social media, with people offering their different opinions.
On Thursday, 31 July 2025, the Constitutional Court ruled in favour of Vodacom, after it appealed the Supreme Court of Appeal's ruling. The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA), at the time, said it was right to compensate Please-Call-Me founder Nkosana Makate with over R40 billion in revenue. These funds were generated from 2001 to 2021.
The outgoing Acting Chief Deputy Justice Mbiyisweli Madlanga reportedly read the ruling, claiming dissatisfaction with aspects of the SCA ruling. Six years ago, Vodacom offered Makate R47 million. However, the SCA stated that it was insufficient. Makate also rejected the offer. Now, the matter has been reverted to the SCA.

Sizwe Dhlomo reacts to court ruling
Taking to social media, Sizwe Dhlomo gave a scathing response to the ruling, saying they had done Makate wrong.
"Cha, bayamdakelwa uMakate!" He exclaimed. This loosely translates to, "No, they did Makate dirty."
Netizens' reactions were split on this ruling. While some people felt as though Nkosana Makate should have accepted the offer, others said he was robbed.
@Xolani_khabazel advised:
"The dude should have taken 40-something million and walked away... imagine the money he has spent on his legal troubles in the past two decades, yoh."
@PMMagadla said:
"In the end, they will give him what he deserves. They're just playing hide and seek."
@majoyana31 claimed:
"I would have accepted the offer a long time ago when they offered R700ml. By the time they conclude the deal, there’s no guarantee that Makate will still be in a position to enjoy the money or else his fighting for the generation to come."
@Bennetfor stated:
"This won't bring him his millions. Advise the guy properly to take what's on offer now and walk away. Why can't he reinvest that money in another invention project of his?"
@MitchPlayer shared:
"Reading comments from fellow Blacks, you realise just how evil our own kind is. I don’t know if it’s jealousy or what. No wonder witchcraft is always associated with Black people. Our people can be disgustingly evil and hateful, I know them very well."
@tintatso1 said:
"He should probably reach a deal with Vodacom, or else a large portion of the settlement will end up covering his legal fees."
Vodacom planned to settle out of court with Makate
In a previous report from Briefly News, in 2024, Vodacom had plans to settle out of court with Makate. He had rejected the final offer of R47 million.
The court ruled that Makate was entitled to between R29 billion and R63 billion. However, Vodacom reportedly wanted to reach an agreement with him outside of court.
