South African musician Sjava is tired of the disrespect, and he recently made it known. Sjava caused a stir after responding to a fan who questioned whether he qualifies as a rapper.

Known for his storytelling, powerful lyrics and vocals that can give R&B singers a run for their money, Sjava is arguably one of the most versatile musicians in Mzansi. His ability to blend genres often sparks debate about where he fits.

Sjava dominates Spotify SA's rap streaming charts

The drama started when music blogger @2022AFRICA shared a list of the most-streamed South African rapper on SA Spotify each year from 2018. Nasty C dominated the list for several years before Blxckie took the title for a year in 2022.

Several social media users applauded the iSibuko hitmaker for his consistency and his genre-bending success. One user couldn’t help but take a dig, asking if the musician could be considered a rapper. The post read:

“Uyi rapper nkabi @Sjava_atm? (Are you really a rapper, Sjava?)”

Never one to back down from a fight, Sjava clapped back with a scathing response that left social media users in stitches and stunned. His response read:

“Ngikhathele yilombuzo njengamanje ngise Rosebank 199 Oxford Road woza sizolwa once 😡 (I’m tired of this question. I’m in Rosebank, 199 Oxford Road right now — come, let’s fight one time.)”
