Daily Maverick revealed in an investigation that out of 421 nonprofits, Collen Mashawana’s nonprofit foundation received funding from IDT’s Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) in five provinces.
Mashawana reportedly flushed millions into a luxury home belonging to IDT CEO Tebogo Malaka via his property management and building supply company.
The publication adds that Mashawana was directly involved in a R16 million project to build the IDT CEO’s new house in the Waterfall Country Estate.
Social media user @mixedraceuncle shared a screenshot of Mashawana's statement on his X account on Monday, 11 August.
Collen Mashawana's Foundation denies involvement

South Africans respond to Mashawana's fraud allegations
@BlazingLEGOs replied:
"Guys, what is so hard about receiving a tender and then doing the work? What happens when you successfully provide a tendered service? Bari (they think) you are uncool, or what?"
@Mahlats75384372 commented:
"Why do they like defending corruption. Let him be investigated. Then we will talk."
@goitsexmaphutha reacted:
"Sometimes our fellow brothers and sisters must learn to say enough is enough. I don’t need this. I mean, why Mashawana’s company still needs more freebies from the government is perplexing. You are developing a mega city north of Tshwane worth multi billions 🤷🏿♂️ Why🤷🏿♂️?"
Sipho Thubelihle Mashiya said:
"Collen, I'm very disappointed in you."
