Broadcaster and club DJ Warras has applauded KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi for using his donated funds wisely.

After his explosive press briefing on Sunday, 6 July 2025, controversial social media personality Chris Excel organised a fundraiser to buy cattle for the KZN top cop.

While radio personality Sizwe Dhlomo had earlier raised questions over the whereabouts of the funds, recent reports suggest that General Mkhwanazi received the donation, and DJ Warras is applauding the top cop for using the funds to honour the legacy of police officers who died in the line of duty.

Netizens weigh in after Warras applauds General Mkhwanazi

In the comments section underneath Warras’ reaction, netizens weighed in with mixed opinions. While others said they never doubted Chris Excel, some were sceptical and suggested he was playing the long game before showing his true colours.

“His motive is to first gain their trust, then start a new BackaBuddy, then strike hard 😅”

A look at General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's bold leadership

General Mkhwanazi is widely regarded as a tough, hands-on leader with an uncompromising stance on crime and corruption. Having joined the South African Police Service in 1993, he rose through the ranks to lead the elite Special Task Force and twice served as acting National Commissioner, most notably in 2011 when he suspended controversial crime intelligence head Richard Mdluli, a move that cemented his reputation for taking bold action against misconduct.

Mkhwanazi has consistently positioned himself as a defender of police integrity, earning broad public support, praise from civic groups and even grassroots admiration for his direct style. However, his uncompromising approach has also drawn political pushback and formal investigations, including an IPID investigation in 2025.
