Popular broadcaster Sizwe Dhlomo sparked a flurry of reactions after unmasking the identity of Mzekezeke in a post on X.

For years, several South Africans have believed that DJ Sbu is the man behind the orange overall, bucket hat and mask. DJ Sbu has dismissed these suggestions and insisted that Mzekezeke is a real person and not a character he plays. Now, Sizwe Dhlomo has reignited the debate after being asked to confirm the identity of the person behind Mzekezeke.

It all started on Monday, 19 August 2025, when social media user @TebzawaMofokeng asked Sizwe Dhlomo to confirm if DJ Sbu is Mzekezeke, demanding a yes or no answer. The question read:

“Dj Sbu ke Mzekezeke? Confirm with yes or no.”

Instead of a yes or no, Sizwe Dhlomo responded with a one-word saying:

“Obvious.”

Netizens react after Sizwe Dhlomo confirms Mzekezeke's identity

Sizwe Dhlomo’s response sent social media users into a frenzy. Several netizens felt Sizwe Dhlomo was dodging the question and requested that he clarify what he meant. Others joked that regardless of Sizwe Dhlomo’s response, DJ Sbu would still deny being Mzekezeke, as he had done for years. A few netizens even suggested that Sizwe Dhlomo is the real Mzekezeke and is throwing people off the scent by suggesting that DJ Sbu is the masked Kwaito musician.

Other celebrities who have revealed Mzekezeke's identity

In the past, several individuals have unwittingly revealed the identity of Mzekezeke. Briefly News reported that Backstage and Generations Carlo Radebe revealed the identity of Mzekezeke in a slip-up during a Podcast and Chill interview.

At the time, Radebe was expressing gratitude to the people who had donated after he asked for financial assistance.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane also unintentionally masked the identity of the legendary Mzekezeke in a post on X (Twitter). Mosimane was responding to comments celebrating him after he received an honorary doctorate for his contributions to football. Mosimane was also celebrating his 60th birthday at the time.
