Meyiwa passed away in Kelly Khumalo's Vosloorus home in October 2014 after an alleged robbery. Khumalo and Meyiwa share a daughter, Thingo Khumalo, who is reportedly following in her father's footsteps.

On Friday, 22 August 2025, social media user @officialtwinny shared a clip from Kelly Khumalo’s interview with SowetanLive. In the snippet, Kelly suggested that she had no hope justice would be served in the Senzo Meyiwa trial. When asked if she had hopes for the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Kelly Khumalo responded:

“None of my business. I don’t have hopes for rubbish. I have no hopes for rubbish. I’m sorry.”

In the same post, the social media user shared a snippet of Kelly’s sister, Zandile Khumalo-Gumede, giving her testimony during the Senzo Meyiwa trial when she was called as a state witness.
