It is always great to give legends their flowers, while they are still alive, and the South African musician Babsy Mlangeni was recently honoured at some prestigious awards.

Netizens came out in numbers, dressed to the nines to celebrate extraordinary storytellers, performers, and visionaries who continue to shape South Africa’s cultural identity at the National Arts & Culture Awards (NACA) 2025 in Sun City.

The awards were hosted by the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, on Friday, 22 August 2025, and Bab'Babsy Mlangeni, who turned 82 in February 24 2025, was one of the honoured artists that night as he received the Ministerial Artist with Disability Award.

Speaking exclusively to Briefly News regarding the trophy he received that evening, Mlangeni expressed his gratitude and also shared how thankful he was to have been honoured with the Ministerial award while he was still alive.

He said:

"I feel really honoured because I have been in this industry for 58 years, though it wasn't easy for me as a disabled person. I remember how a producer would say you can't see, so how will you make music without sight, but look at me now, I conquered and made it well."

Leleti Khumalo and Thembi Mtshali received prestigious awards

Bab'Babsy Mlangeni wasn't the only public figure who was honoured with a prestigious award in Mzansi. In August 2024, two veteran actresses, Thembi Mtshali and Leleti Khumalo, were recipients of the Golden Elephant Lifetime Achievement Awards at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg.
