Ever heard of the strange occurrence of couples looking like each other after years of living or being together?
This was a recent discussion on social media when online users shared a picture of comedian Thomas Gumede and his wife, Zola Nombona, claiming they looked alike:
"Couples who stay together for a long time often end up looking alike. Why?"
The couple has been married since 2018 and has a son together. Not only do they share similar facial features, but the lovebirds also have matching tooth gaps.

The post, shared by Twitter (X) user RefilweSeboko on 26 August 2025, quickly sparked a debate, as more followers began to analyse the Gumedes' striking resemblance.
A follow-up tweet from Saltiesunmasked added to the conversation. The tweep posted pictures of former reality TV star Mpumi Mophatlane and her husband, Isaac, as well as Jessica Nkosi and her hubby, TK Dlamini, claiming they looked like relatives:

While it's not known how this happens, research suggests that people often choose partners who are similar to themselves (Assortative Mating) both in personality and values, as well as physical features.
Meanwhile, it is also believed that one may be more attracted to faces that share features with one's own, simply because they are familiar to you (Familiarity Effect).
The conversation quickly went into whether or not these celebrity couples resembled each other, with social media saying some were much more alike than others.

"Well, Jessica and TK are related. They share a surname."
sandisweMaG claimed:
"Jess and Ntokozo are brother and sister because Nkosi and Dlamini are the same thing. But love won, I guess??"

"Jessica and her cousin are my favourites."
