Shebeshxt Inks Deal With Virgin Music Group South Africa: “This Is Just the Beginning”

Limpopo-born musician Shebeshxt has levelled up with a new major deal in his bag. The singer has inked a global distribution deal with one of Mzansi's leading music labels, Virgin Music Group South Africa.

This deal marks an exciting move for the Limpopo musician who will be taking his unique Lekompo sound to the global stage.

All about Shebeshxt's deal with VMGSA

Waide Lemos from the music label confirmed with Briefly News that the Twerka musician, real name Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, will be bringing rising star Naqua SA along with him. Together, under the Toples Fam label, they have major plans ahead as a result of this lucrative deal.

Virgin Music Group, which previously signed DJ Speedsta, recognises Shebeshxt as a musician who possesses "an unapologetic energy, viral hits, and street credibility." They also strive to give him all the musical freedom that he enjoys as an independent artist.

They continued, "Shebeshxt has become a cultural force, leading the charge in the Lekompo music wave. His decision to partner with Virgin Music Group signals a bold new chapter where creative freedom meets global infrastructure. Speaking to Briefly News, a representative from Virgin Music SA said that Shebe and Naqua remain independent artists.

“Shebeshxt and Naqua SA remain fully independent artists, and that’s something we deeply respect. Our role is to provide global distribution and a range of label services that enable artists to maintain creative freedom while benefiting from supportive resources, including monetisation across all platforms, pitching to music services, and assisting with a long-term career setup.This partnership gives them the backing of a global powerhouse while they continue to lead their journey on their own terms.”

Speaking on behalf of Virgin Music SA, the Managing Director, Nicole Thomas, said, “We’re proud to stand behind Shebeshxt and Naqua SA and support the vision of Toples Fam. They represent the voice of a new generation, and we’re excited to help take that voice across borders.”

With this new deal, the two stars are hopeful that their sound will now grow and become a global force.

Shebeshxt speaks out following daughter's death

In a previous report from Briefly News, Shebeshxt poured his heart out as he expressed how painful it is to be without his daughter, Onthatile Chuene. The little girl passed away in June 2024 in a fatal car crash, which left Shebeshxt and his partner injured.

In an interview on a podcast, the Limpopo rapper said he is experiencing heartbreak that will not go away. He said if he wallowed in his heartbreak, then he would not be able to put food on the table. He has left everything to God and is no longer looking at the negative side.

In a previous post, he expressed his heartbreak and how much he misses her: “Onthatile might not be with me, but I know she's with me in spirit. She's my angel. Onthatile, my daughter, my life.”

Shebeshxt shocked his fans recently when he got involved in another car accident after losing his daughter in an accident in 2024.
