Stained Glass TV has announced that their top TV show, Uzalo, has been put on hold due to financial challenges with the SABC.

SABC's Tshivenda soapie Muvhango also faced non-payments this year after the channel cancelled the TV show after nearly 30 years.

The channel's educational soapie, Skeem Saam, also made headlines in June when internal contract disputes became public knowledge.

Entertainment commentator Mlu reported on his X account on Wednesday, 6 August, that the soapie has been put on hold due to financial difficulties with the SABC.

Statement from Stained Glass TV

The production company Stained Glass TV released a statement on Monday, 4 August, to their crew and cast, which was shared on social media on Wednesday, 6 August.

"We regret to inform you that, due to severe cash flow constraints, we are compelled to pause production with immediate effect."

The production company also shared in the statement that they are actively engaging with the channel to resolve the matter as soon as possible.

Uzalo's fan @crazythatoo commented on social media:

"SABC, though, they are busy demanding (read threatening) TV licence payments from us, but they can’t even pay these production companies for us to enjoy TV. First it was Generations: The Legacy, then Skeem Saam, now Uzalo🤦🏽‍♀️."

Thato Thandeka reacted:

"It's the most useless soapie ever, even Takalani Sesame is better."

"It's never easy to hear news like this, especially for the actors who may lose their jobs. But we also need to be honest, Uzalo stopped being the show we once loved a long time ago. It no longer served its purpose for us as viewers. Even if it returns, it’s unlikely to make a meaningful difference."

TC Kgotole Maps wrote:

"Since Nkunzi became Ndabezitha, Uzalo has never been the same👐."

MaNtusi Ka MaloUda reacted:

"Why not cancel it? Liyabheda vele anyway🚮," (It's terrible).

TK Irene Sebeko said:

"I last watched Uzalo 4 to 5 years ago. It used to be my favourite. It can go for good."

Junior Mesheni commented:

"Generations: The Legacy and Uzalo would have gotten cancelled if they played on Mzansi Magic."
