A distressing account from a woman detailing a haircut gone wrong has captured significant attention across digital platforms.
The frustrating video, shared on TikTok by @cisca_dk, gained massive views and many comments from empathetic viewers.
In the video, the woman sat in a home setting, wearing a cap to conceal her damaged hair. She explained that she had visited the dresser the previous day. She then displayed a picture of her original hair, which reached her neck and had a slight curl, followed by an image of the sleek, straightened bob cut she had specifically requested.

Moving from a bob to a patch
She, however, recounted looking down at the salon only once; when she looked up again, her hair had been cut shockingly short, with a noticeable large section missing on the side, almost creating a bald patch. Despite her clear disappointment and frustration, she explained that she remained silent, simply got up, paid the R250 fee, and left the salon. She then posed a question to her audience, seeking advice on what to do with her hair in its current ruined state.

Hairstyle expert shares her views
We at Briefly News had the pleasure of speaking with Lusanda Tyawana, a respected salon owner, to get her professional take on the distressing video of the woman's bob cut that went wrong.
We asked what her reaction was to seeing the botched bob cut and the large missing patch. She said:
"It was quite upsetting to watch, to be honest. As someone in the industry, seeing hair cut that short with a big section missing, it's just not right. My heart went out to her."

The team asked how important it is for a client to communicate or direct a stylist during a hairstyle or haircut. She responded:
"It is very crucial. As stylists, we should be communicating with the client, showing them progress, and making sure they're happy. A client, showing them progress, and making sure they're happy. A client should never have to 'look down' and then be shocked by the results."
When asked what her view is on payment when a client is unhappy with the service. Lusanda said:
"If a service isn't delivered as requested, or to the satisfaction of a client, and they are unhappy, payment should always be discussed. In a reputable salon, we'd aim to fix it, or at least reach an agreement, not just to let them pay for a ruined cut. She shouldn't have paid, period!"
SA sympathises with the woman
The woman's post garnered massive sympathy and a flood of strong opinions from social media users. Many offered compassionate words and practical advice, suggesting she could style her hair as a pixie cut to salvage the situation. A common sentiment was that she should not have paid the R250 fee. Many argued that the stylist failed to deliver the requested service.

Some pointed out that the R250 fee should have served as a warning sign, implying that such a low price might indicate subpar service. Others, however, disagreed, countering that they knew many reputable salons that charged even less than R250 and consistently performed excellent work.

"Everyone commenting about the price hasn’t been to a smaller town where the aunties slay your haircut for less than R250. It’s not about the price. It’s about an adult delivering a service, knowing they cannot provide the service the client wants/needs, and still proceeding to do it."
User @MissOsenotse advised:
"Cry for a bit and do a cute pixie cut ❤️."
User @Shante| Lifestyle Creator added:
"Sue them!! I wouldn't have paid them at all because they messed up. I hope you feel okay, dear ❤️."
User @MissL007 shared:
"Sorry, style it as a pixie cut. Dye it dark so that it doesn’t look so thin on the side. Use the mouse to flatten it to the front, wave it on the side, and curl it on top towards the front."

"We have to normalise speaking up during the process. I mean no disrespect towards you, but in general, as soon as you notice that they are not going in the right direction, say something. I do, I will never have this problem, it's too much money and it will leave you in a bad mood until it's grown back😭."
