@garfieldzar revealed that sour worms were priced at R89 in a South African grocery store. In the clip that was posted on 4 August 2025 on the video-sharing app, he expressed the following:

"Who do these people think they are, charging R86 for sour worms? At this point, it has to be a joke because there’s no way someone, anywhere in the world, is paying R86 for sour worms!"

He went on to add that it was first Pringles, then Nutella, all priced at ridiculous amounts, and now sour worms seem to be following suit.

"When is it gonna end? Who is paying for this? Like, seriously, who is paying R86 to put something this small in their mouth? So, you're telling me that with a R200 note, I can only get two bags of these sour worms? What can these sour worms do? Solve world hunger?" @garfieldzar added.

The young content creator called out the grocery store and urged them to start charging normal prices for food.

"When did the economy get this bad," he shared.

The humorous reaction quickly struck a chord with South Africans, many of whom took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the rising cost of snacks.

"Nah, that’s crazyyy," one person commented.

Some viewers speculated that the high price could be due to imported branding or premium packaging, while others simply saw it as another reflection of the country’s cost-of-living crisis.

While @garfieldzar’s exaggerated collapse may have been in jest, his video highlighted a sentiment that many in Mzansi share that even the smallest indulgences now come with a hefty price tag.

The clip continues to gain traction online, with netizens debating whether R86 for sour worms is justifiable or simply outrageous. For now, one thing is certain, in South Africa, even sweets can spark a nationwide conversation.
