An intriguing video showcased a young woman’s incredible efforts to prepare a traditional feast, only for the intended guests to allegedly be absent.
The clip, shared on TikTok by user @mamdumjana, garnered massive curiosity and amused reactions from social media users.
In the short video, a person moves around filming a monumental amount of food, which seemed to be for a traditional ceremony. The clip shows huge buckets of umqombothi, a traditional African beer made from maize, sorghum malt, yeast, and water. The feast also included a ready-to-cook cow, which was lying on its skin, as well as many chickens that had been prepared with all their feathers removed, ready for cooking.
An unexpected feast
The young woman, however, captioned her post with a sense of distress, stating that they had prepared all the food for a specific group of people and that they had not shown up. The sheer amount of food and drink she had ready suggested that it was meant for a very large gathering, which made the absence of the guests even more surprising and intriguing. The video provided a glimpse into a potential family ceremony that did not go as planned, leaving them to deal with an abundance of delicious food.

"Don't take it to heart, it happens. At times, ancestors do this because maybe some people had already prepared ways to ruin things. With your guides, just place your food in the ancestral house, ask your guides what you ask, and as the day goes by, place some stuff into the fridge nizidlele (feast as a family) day by day."

"It begins with respect, regardless of your status, money and your levels. People love themselves, too."

"As long as you did the ceremony for yourself, it's fine, invite the neighbours 😉."
