Briefly News spoke to Tisha, an enterprise sales manager for a global tech giant, who revealed that the pricing was 100% satire, adding:

"It was a playful joke inspired by the rising costs of weddings and the funny conversations couples have when planning.
"To be honest, we saw a poster of an event that had table bookings, and the prices were insane. We thought it would be a cheeky way to poke fun at how seriously people take seating plans and how much drama they can cause!"

Tisha stated that her loved ones and people on TikTok ran with the joke, turning her comment section into a hilarious thread of people adding humour.

"However, on X, the tone shifted. Some people took it seriously, which honestly surprised us. We had a few laughs reading the passionate responses, but we're glad we can now clarify that no one paid a cent to sit at our wedding, except maybe in emotional labour."

Wedding table booking intrigues SA

The viral post had hundreds of social media users heading towards the comment section, not realising it was all done in jest. Some people wanted more details about the ceremony, while others shared their questions they were dying to get answers to.

@iThando told the online community:

"If they were high-profile people, this would make sense."

@sipho_mate jokingly said to people on the internet:

@Developer_RSA remarked about the wedding table bookings:

"Smart wedding. Making back all the money spent for the wedding preparations."

@LeagoRachuene shared their take on the set-up for the reception:

"There's nothing wrong with this. Folks will go book a VIP to go see Scorpion Kings, but when they want to see a union, they don't want to pay. So who's going to pay for the expenses? They are because when you attend a wedding, you are an expense, not an asset."

@Monalisa3000i wrote in the comments:

"First of all , I don't like anyone this much. To pay to attend your wedding? Forget it."

@mqhelenqabankos stated with a laugh:

"I need full details on this wedding. I want to see everything from start to finish."
