A Cape Town woman has left Mzansi completely amazed after sharing a video that shows her sheep opening a gate on command, proving that farm animals are much smarter than most people think.
Content creator @sinothando.lolo.7, who regularly shares farm and animal content on her page, posted the viral video in early August that has since gained over 75,900 reactions, 3,200 comments, and 1,200 shares.
The woman, who owns a farm where she grows vegetables and keeps several animals, was walking home with her sheep when they reached her locked gate. Instead of opening it herself, she gave her sheep a simple command.

Sheep intelligence backed by science
According to VeganFTA, recent scientific research has proven that sheep are actually very intelligent and complex creatures. Dr Lori Marino and Dr Debra Merskin published a comprehensive review of sheep intelligence that included over 150 scientific references, showing that these animals have excellent memory, can recognise faces, and can even learn complex tasks.
The research shows that sheep can remember up to 50 individual faces for years, can navigate complicated mazes, and have strong emotional responses to different situations. They're also excellent at problem-solving and can even learn to self-medicate when they're feeling unwell.
