Entrepreneurship amid high unemployment

According to the South African Government's latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey, young people face an unemployment rate of 46.1%. This shows a large increase from 36.9% in 2015, showing the deteriorating job market prospects for millions of young South Africans.

Among the 4.8 million unemployed youth, 58.7% have no previous work experience, creating a cycle where young people cannot get hired without experience but cannot gain experience without being hired. This challenging employment issue has pushed many young South Africans, like this Cape Town entrepreneur, to start their own businesses as a way to create income and build their futures.
