A local perspective on a global model

We at Briefly News spoke with local salon owner Lusanda Tyawana to gain her professional insight on the American salon that has taken the online world by storm.

We asked if Nadine's 'factory operation' model could be adapted to local salons. She responded:

"That model is incredibly fascinating. I think for us locally, we could adapt a version of it, but maybe on a smaller scale. Our clients love the personal experience and one-on-one attention, so we would have to find a way to blend that efficiency with the personal touch our customers expect."

Noting that Nadine's salon employs 400 individuals, we asked if that would be a challenge in growing a local salon to that kind of scale. The salon owner shared:

"The biggest challenge would be maintaining consistent quality across so many people. You would need a very strong training program and a set of standards that every single stylist adheres to. It would also be a massive administrative task to manage a staff that large."

When asked if diversifying services with things like a VIP, a kids' section and selling food would be great for our local market, Lusanda said:

"Absolutely! Offering additional services like food or a kids' corner transforms the client experience from just a hair appointment into a full outing. It makes the salon a destination, and that's a very smart way to build a loyal customer base."

SA praises the entrepreneur

The clip went viral, accumulated over a million views and thousands of comments from social media users who were greatly impressed by Nadine's achievement. Many commenters praised her success, remarking that her triumph was not just a win for Cameroon but symbolised a victory for the entire African region, celebrating her entrepreneurial spirit.

Some shared their interest in pursuing similar business ventures in their respective countries, inspired by Nadine's model. Others who had visited the salon could not stop raving about the exceptional quality of their work.
