JOHANNESBURG — Patriotic Alliance member Liam Jacobs will replace Kenny Kunene as the party's councillor in the City of Johannesburg. This was after Kunene resigned from his position as the MMC of Transport and as a councillor.

According to Eyewitness News, party president Gayton McKenzie announced that Jacobs would take the place of Kunene. Kunene recently resigned after McKenzie initiated an investigation into allegations that Kunene is linked to Katiso Molefe, who was arrested on 21 July 2025. Kunene was found at Molefe's house in Sandton, Johannesburg, and questioned about his presence.

McKenzie provides an update on the investigation

McKenzie also provided an update on the investigation he launched. He said that he would announce the name of the law firm that will be appointed to probe the circumstances that led to Kunene being found in Molefe's home. McKenzie said that he believed Kunene was set up and that he would not give him special treatment.

McKenzie said that the party comes before his relationship with Kunene. He also denied having any ties to Molefe. The PA president said he would communicate with Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero about Kunene's resignation on 29 July 2025.

Who is Liam Jacobs?

Liam Jacobs was a member of Parliament for the Democratic Alliance. He, however, defected to the Patriotic Alliance on 13 June 2025. Kunene, on the other hand, was suspended from his position after he was found at Molefe's house. He has denied having any personal relationship with Molefe.

Democratic Alliance welcomes Kenny Kunene's resignation
