The party wanted the court to declare Ramaphosa’s decision to suspend Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and appoint Professor Firoz Cachalia as an acting minister as unconstitutional. It also wanted the court to rule against his establishment of a commission of inquiry, saying he abused the Constitution by making the decision.

What did the MK Party say?

Following the court’s decision being made, MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela shared the party’s thoughts.

Expressing unhappiness with the decision, he said it was clear that South Africans and people on the ground now needed to take it into their own hands.

The party added that the ruling proved that KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi was correct when he said the judiciary was implicated in wrongdoing.

“This court and this judiciary are no longer a judiciary for the people,” he said.

MK Party releases statement confirming stance

The party also shared an official statement on X (formerly Twitter), where it expressed that it was disappointed but not surprised by the decision.

“What is most appalling is the fact that this is the same court that used direct access and exclusive jurisdiction to send President Zuma to prison without referring the case to the High Court,” the statement read.

It also questioned why this matter was any different from the Zuma case, arguing that the only difference was that the President was now Cyril Ramaphosa.

“Let it be made clear, Mr Ramaphosa enjoys the undue privilege of protection by the judiciary and has repeatedly been shielded by the courts,” the statement continued.

How did South Africans react?

Social media users were divided by the decision, with some joking that Zuma suffered another loss in court, while others agreed that the courts were captured by the ANC.
