DURBAN, KWAZULU-NATAL — A delegation from the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) is meeting with KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, on 4 August 2025.
According to SABC News, the meeting is taking place less than a month after General Mkhwanazi alleged that a criminal enterprise infiltrated the country's criminal justice system, including the South African Police Service, the judiciary, Parliament, Cabinet, and the courts.
Mzano Billy, the leader of the delegation, revealed that the NCOP planned to meet with him before the allegations were made. He stated that the visit was intended to explore ways to enhance policing in the province as a whole. He said that the NCOP has identified the South African Police Service as a stakeholder that it must engage with.

What did Mkhwanazi reveal?
Mkhwanazi held a press conference on 6 July 2025 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. He alleged that Parliamentarians, ministers, members of the South African Police Service, judges, businessmen, and prosecutors are involved in a criminal enterprise. He also accused Senzo Mchunu of interfering with police work by attempting to dismantle the Political Killings Task Team.
President Cyril Ramaphosa placed Mchunu on special leave on 13 July and established a Commission of Inquiry to investigate Mkhwanazi's claims. Ramaphosa appointed former acting Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga to head the Commission of Inquiry. Mchunu welcomed its establishment.
