South Africans commented on the incident.

Lucky Mogapi said:

"Sad news indeed. May the soul of our beloved soldier rest in peace, and may the family, friends, and colleagues be comforted. I don't understand what an investigation is for. Soldiers work in pairs under the leadership of someone where information should be at hand with immediate effect."

Nicbholas Nthala asked:

"Why was he patrolling alone? Go well, patriot!"

Mduduzi Zwelonke asked:

"Why was he alone to begin with? How did he die with his weapon in his possession?"

Thabo Matshabela said:

"Patrols are done in sticks or on sections, not alone. I smell a rat here."

Leanfer Appel Visser said:

"Condolences to his family, friends, and SANDF."

Siya Rasenyalo said:

"Unfortunately, you can't outrun an elephant, and the only effective weapon is an R1."
