The South African Police Service in Limpopo arrested two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a mother and her daughter. This came after a 31-year-old woman and her 2-year-old daughter went missing on 19 May 2025.

What happened to the woman and her daughter?

Police in Thohoyandou, Vhembe District, joined by the provincial team of investigators dealing with missing persons’ cases, launched an investigation after the disappearance of the two victims.

Police said that on Wednesday, 30 July 2025, SAPS officials followed a credible lead that led them to the discovery of the bodies of the 31-year-old woman and her 2-year-old daughter. SAPS said that the two suspects were immediately linked to the murder and arrested on the same day.

Two suspects arrested

Police stated that officers made a shocking discovery during the process. Some of the body parts of the two victims were missing. Police also confirmed that one of the suspects is believed to be the boyfriend of the 31-year-old woman.

The two arrested suspects, Tshilidzi Phalandwa, 43, and Balangani Sedzani Tshivhombedze, 32, appeared before the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 1 August 2025. The case was postponed to Tuesday, 5 August 2025, and the suspects were remanded in custody.
