EKURHULENI, GAUTENG — South Africans celebrated the arrest of 10 Metro Police Officers and South African Police Service officers in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, on 4 August 2025.

According to SABC News, the incident happened during a raid the Tactical Response Team conducted. They were arrested in Edenvale and charged with theft and corruption. Six Ekurhuleni Metro Police officers and four Tsakane Police Station officers were arrested.

The officers who were arrested allegedly raided a shop and did not book the items they confiscated. The police also reportedly confiscated R35,000 in cash, which the police found in their possession.

Police officers who were arrested

A member of the South African Police Service from Gauteng was arrested on the N1 South outside of Polokwane on 19 March. The constable was found with R85,000 worth of nyaope while driving a suspected stolen vehicle. He was charged with dealing in drugs and possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

A police officer was arrested on 22 March 2025 in Barberton, Mpumalanga. He was arrested as part of Operation Vala Umgodi. The police found him inside a Toyota Fortuner. The police searched the car and found equipment used for illegal mining activities.

Seven police officers were arrested in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, on 10 September 2024 and charged with extortion. They attempted to extort money from a shop owner in Phoenix after arresting him. They demanded R100,000 from his spouse to release him and the products.

SAPS officer arrested for Bloemfontein teenager's abduction
