WESTERN CAPE – The father of Kiara-Joy Daniels has described his daughter as a devoted person who always puts others first.

The 16-year-old Kiara-Joy was among four teenagers tragically killed in a car crash on Saturday, 3 August 2025, in Brackenfell, Western Cape. Her father, Phillip Daniels Fabe, has now opened up about the type of person she was, as well as how the family is dealing with her death.

What did Daniels say about his daughter?

Speaking after her death, he recalled how his daughter was a people person who would help anyone.

“She would give her last to anybody, and she will never keep anything for herself. She was a caring child. She cared about us, cared about me, cared about my health - she will always worry about herself last," he said.

Kiara-Joy lived in Kuils River with her father and older brother and was homeschooled.

He added that they were now trying to stay strong for the family, especially her brother, ahead of her memorial service. The memorial service is set to take place on Thursday, 7 August, and her funeral is set to take place on Saturday, 9 August.

What happened to Kiara-Joy?

The 16-year-old was among a group of teenagers killed in a car crash on Cecil Morgan Drive, Brackenfell, on Saturday evening. Four of the six occupants in the vehicle were declared dead on the scene, with the youngest being 15-year-old Adrian Le Roux. The other two suffered serious injuries and were stabilised on site before being rushed to the hospital.

The horrific crash happened just after 6 pm along Cecil Morgan Drive, where the group of friends were travelling when the vehicle crashed into a tree. The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle while navigating a bend, and it crashed into a tree before bursting into flames. According to officials on the scene, the fire broke out immediately after impact.

The accident is the latest in a series of crashes on the country's roads in which youngsters were the victims. On 11 May 2025, three teenagers were killed when a bakkie overturned on the N2 highway near Beacon Bay. In July 2025, a minibus taxi crashed in KwaZulu-Natal, leaving one pupil dead and 10 others seriously injured.

3 Children killed in Worcester crash

In another crash in the Western Cape, three children were killed in a fatal accident on the R60 in Worcester.

Briefly News reported that the accident claimed the lives of five people in total after a taxi crashed into a truck.

South Africans voiced frustration that taxis were often involved in fatal accidents and called for something to be done.
