What happened?
The accident, which occurred on Saturday, 23 August 2025, involved a minibus and a truck. According to the Department of Transport and Human Settlements, MEC Siboniso Duma was briefed on the incident by the Road Traffic Inspectorate. Emergency services, police, and the Inspectorate remained on scene until late.
This incident comes less than a week after another fatal crash over the weekend, which claimed six lives, including five members of the same family.

Transport spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya stated that authorities will intensify road safety measures in an effort to prevent further fatalities.
Sibiya said that the MEC extended his condolences to the families of the victims and assigned a departmental team to assist in locating and supporting them.
