Cristiano Ronaldo has led the tribute after the passing of Portuguese national teammate Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva in a car accident in Spain.

The Liverpool star, who got married to his long-term girlfriend Rute Cardoso, in Porto, barely two weeks ago, died after his car went off the road on the A-52 in the province of Zamora.

According to a report by the police, there was no other car involved in the accident and they are still investigating the cause of the unfortunate incident in Spain.

Jota, alongside Ronaldo, were part of the Portuguese national team that won the UEFA Nations League after defeating Spain in the final, and the former FC Porto star won the English Premier League title with Liverpool in the just-concluded season in England.

The 28-year-old forward made 182 appearances for the Merseyside Reds and lifted all the possible domestic trophies with the club.

Ronaldo pays tribute to Diogo Jota

Ronaldo, who is the captain of the Portugal national team took to social media to express his sorrow concerning the death of Jota.

They were both together in the national team a few weeks ago when they took part in the final phase of the UEFA Nations League.

"It doesn't make sense," the former Real Madrid star's statement reads on X.
"Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you had gotten married. To your family, your wife, and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world.
