Kaizer Chiefs' Title Hopes: Assessing Their Chances in the Betway Premiership

  • Kaizer Chiefs would be one of the teams competing to win the Betway Premiership this season after finishing outside top eight last campaign
  • The Soweto giants brought in new quality players this summer to help their quest of returning to the summit of the South African top-flight league
  • A sports journalist while chatting exclusively with Briefly News shared his thoughts on the Glamour Boys chances of winning the league this season

Kaizer Chiefs are one of the top teams in the Betway Premiership, but they've failed to meet expectations in recent seasons.

The Glamour Boys finished outside the top eight in the league but managed to end their 10-year trophy drought by winning the Nedbank Cup after defeating Orlando Pirates in the final.

The Premier Soccer League giants have added new players to their ranks this summer as they are prepared fully to take something out of next season.

A sports journalist, while being interviewed by Briefly News, tabled his argument about Kaizer Chiefs' chances of winning the league this campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs chances of winning Betway Premiership

Sports journalist Uche Anuma, in an exclusive chat with Briefly News, shared his thoughts on Kaizer Chiefs' chances of winning the Betway Premiership this season.

"Kaizer Chiefs are one of the top teams in the Premier Soccer League, but their chances of winning the league this season are slim as they are way behind the likes of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in terms of quality if we are being honest," he said.
"In the last two seasons, Kaizer Chiefs have finished outside the top eight, but they changed the story in terms of trophy drought last campaign by winning the Nedbank Cup against all odds.
"I don't think they have the right squad to dominate the league, but I think they can make the top eight this season."

Anuma also touched on the players Kaizer Chiefs have added to their squad this summer and the mistakes they’ve made so far in the transfer market. They let go of players worth R76 million this summer.

“They’ve recruited some good players this summer, especially the signing of Siphesihle Ndlovu from SuperSport United,” he added.
“Despite investing well in new players, they still fall short in some aspect because they failed to sign a proven striker and also a goalkeeper.
“Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen are good goalkeepers on their day, but Chiefs needed an upgrade in that department if they want to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns and their city rivals, Orlando Pirates, for the league title.
“There are good goalkeepers in the PSL; they can consider signing before the summer transfer window closes.”

Kaizer Chiefs will play in the CAF Confederations Cup this season. They secured a place in the competition after winning the Nedbank Cup last season.
