He also claimed he is satisfied with the former Orlando Pirates star’s work so far with the country’s national team even after struggling in the World Cup qualifiers.

"McCarthy is doing a good job with Kenya, and could go all the way to win the CHAN tournament,” he said.
“The World Cup qualifiers matches against Gabon and the Gambia showed glimpses of what Benni could offer our national team, and I’m happy with how things are going already.
“The players also have their part to play in all these, a good coach, performing manager, depends on their player’s contribution.”

Mbogo also mentioned the teams in the competition that might stand in Kenya’s way in winning the competition.

“There are a lot of strong teams in the tournament and absolutely every team didn’t come to play as they all have the mind of winning the competition,” he added.
“Even at that, there are teams that are better placed and also with better players and quality squad.

“Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Morocco and Algeria could cause problems for McCarthy’s side, but if they keep up with what they did against Congo DR then they can boast of winning the competition.
“I just need them to get a decisive win against Angola in their next match, this will stamp their quest of qualifying for the next round.”

Kenya’s next match in the tournament would be against the Palanca Negras of Angola on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

A win for Harambee Stars against Angola would build their quest of sealing a place in the next round where they could face one of Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Central African Republic and Burkina Faso.
