Modiba’s Future at Sundowns
The Sundowns left-back will be hoping to regain his place in the starting line-up this coming season. Last season, he lost his spot to Zimbabwean international Divine Lunga.
Modiba has been with the Brazilians since 2020, following his move from the now-defunct SuperSport United. Since joining Sundowns, he has made 163 appearances, scored nine goals, and provided 17 assists.
He has lifted the league title with the Pretoria-based side on four occasions and made 35 appearances last season. However, he did not feature in any match during the FIFA Club World Cup.
Cardoso speaks on the absence of key Sundowns players
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has explained why Khuliso Mudau, Lucas Ribeiro and Peter Shalulile were absent in the Brazilian's win over Richards Bay in the MTN8 quarter-final.
The Pretoria giants hit four past the Natal RichBoyz to secure a place in the semi-final, with Iqraam Rayners stealing the show with a Man of the Match performance in the absence of the trio.
Even with the trio, Sundowns dominated the match from start to finish, but some of the club fans wanted answers to the unavailability of the three players.
Sundowns players slammed after Club World Cup exit
As previously reported by Briefly News, Mamelodi Sundowns players were criticised by netizens for dancing at the Hard Rock Stadium following their goalless draw with Fluminense, despite being eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
Their talisman, Lucas Ribeiro, battled Lionel Messi for a prestigious FIFA award during the tournament.
