“Tendai Made Mistakes”: Family Remembers Late Orlando Pirates Striker Tendai Ndoro

A memorial service was held in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, for the late former Orlando Pirates striker Tendai Ndoro, who passed away on Monday, 18 August, at his Sandton apartment.
Ndoro, who represented the Zimbabwe senior national team between 2013 and 2017, played for Chicken Inn in Bulawayo before moving to South Africa, where he featured for the Buccaneers, and later continued his career in Saudi Arabia.

On Thursday, 21 August, family, friends, and former teammates gathered in Johannesburg to celebrate his life. According to the Daily Sun, his family spoke fondly of him and sought to dispel negative social media rumours.

His sister, Lorraine Ndoro Mncube, acknowledged that Ndoro had made mistakes but emphasised that he worked to correct them. She also highlighted that he was a breadwinner and took great care of the family.
“Tendai made mistakes. Who are we to judge? He fixed them the best way he could, and only God can judge him. When things were not going well, he called me, and I came running because I knew he had always helped me before. When I arrived, he was in a bad state,” she recalled.
She expressed deep sorrow that her brother had passed away at the young age of 40.

Ndoro's daughter remembers her late father.
His daughter, Laiza Ndoro, spoke emotionally about her father, remembering the times they spent together taking photographs.
“I love my father. We loved taking photos together. My father was a person who loved people. He would always tell me that I must learn to love and share,” she said.

Ndoro will be laid to rest in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, on Sunday, 24 August.
Ndoro reportedly died a bitter and lonely man
According to Zimbabwe’s H-Metro, Ndoro died a bitter and lonely man. A viral clip that surfaced on Tuesday, 19 August, showed him speaking about his ex-wife, Thando Maseko. In the days leading up to his death, he reportedly confided in close friends that he felt abandoned, particularly after his divorce.
At the time of his death, Ndoro was living at the upmarket Barlouw Park Lifestyle Estate in Sandton. A close friend revealed that they had planned to travel to Pretoria together to renew their driver’s licences, but Ndoro had complained of nosebleeds and headaches. That was the last time they spoke.
