Kaizer Chiefs striker Ashley Du Preez has taken a big step off the pitch, proposing to his long-time partner, Mel Martin, in a touching moment shared on social media.

The couple posted clips of the proposal on their Instagram stories on Wednesday, 3 September. In the video, the former Stellenbosch FC forward went down on one knee in front of a heart-shaped rose arrangement and a glowing neon sign that read,

“Will you marry me?”

The intimate proposal unfolded at what appeared to be a rooftop venue, where close friends and family had gathered to celebrate Mel’s birthday.

Du Preez captioned his video,

Early career and rise at Stellenbosch FC

Born on 16 July 1997 in Stellenbosch, Du Preez began his professional career with Stellenbosch FC in 2016.

Over six seasons, he made 88 appearances and scored 15 goals, playing a vital role in guiding the club into the Premier Soccer League (PSL). His consistent performances earned him a move to Kaizer Chiefs in July 2022.

Kaizer Chiefs Wandile Duba speaks on death threats claims

Briefly News previously reported that Wandile Duba, a key player for Kaizer Chiefs, has spoken openly, that he is receiving death threats.

The prolific forward has been instrumental in Chiefs’ charge this season, which has seen them go five games unbeaten since the start of the season.

In his four appearances for Amakhosi this 2025–26 season, Duba has registered an assist but has yet to score a goal. He spoke about the brutal criticism he has faced, some of which has even led to threats against his life.
