What did Erasmus and Kolisi say about the Ellis Park defeat?

Both Kolisi and head coach Rassie Erasmus openly acknowledged their shortcomings from the Johannesburg clash, with Erasmus calling the result “an embarrassment.”

“This is one of the most embarrassing press conferences I’ve had in a long time,” Erasmus said.
“Not just because we played poorly, although we were awful, but because they were genuinely very good. We made them look even better with the way we performed.
“To throw away a 22-0 lead like that is more than just frustrating; it’s a pattern we’ve seen before. It felt like déjà vu from the Italy Test, where we were cruising at 27-3 and still let them claw back. That’s not bad luck; that’s a warning sign. Australia showed grit, and we didn’t match it when it mattered most.”

“We really let ourselves down, and we have to own that,” he said.
“It’s simply not good enough. You start strong, then ease off, that’s not acceptable at this level. It just isn’t.”

Australia head coach Eddie Jones also weighed in, noting the Springboks’ intensity was unsustainable. He praised his team’s resilience, singling out James O’Connor’s performance as key to the Wallabies’ comeback.
