Rassie Erasmus Hails Springboks Star After Crucial Rugby Championship Win Against Australia
Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus has hailed one of his key player after a flawless kicking performance powered Springboks to victory against Australia in the Rugby Championship in Cape Town.
The win came a week later after the Springboks threw away a 22-0 lead to lose 38-22 at the Ellis Park Stadium.
Erasmus hails Pollard for his performance
Erasmus after the match showered praises on 'cool-head' Handre Pollard for his performance against the Wallabis in Cape Town on Saturday.
“That cool head of Handré was needed, and he kicked his penalties over. Where (Wallabies flyhalf James) O’Connor missed two kicks, Handré slotted everything. He was very important,” Erasmus said.
Despite acknowledging areas that still need improvement, Erasmus expressed satisfaction with the Springboks' overall performance. He wasn’t overly concerned that South Africa had “lost” the second half for the second weekend in a row.

“The most important thing for us was to win and prevent them from earning a bonus point,” Erasmus said.
“We’re back on track. We’ve collected log points and we’re happy with the result. If I had to rate the team based on this match and last week, I’d give them a six or seven. It wasn’t perfect, but the priority was getting back on the horse.”
The 57-year-old added that the team played a more controlled, balanced game this time around.
“We didn’t create nearly as many opportunities as we did last weekend—probably only about 50%—but we managed to grind it out. I expected a tight contest, and it was. Still, we got the win, and eight more points than them. That’s satisfying.”
